Sistine Chapel Choir Tours USA
Sistine Chapel Choir
Directed by Maestro Palombella
The Sistine Chapel Choir—The Pope’s Choir—is the world’s oldest choir. Contributing their mastery of Renaissance music to the revival of art, music, culture, and life in the modern-day Renaissance City of Detroit, the visit by the Sistine Chapel choir is historic. St. Luke Choir has been invited to participate in the tour’s American Choir: Sept. 21-24, 2017 and sing with the Sistine Chapel Choir.
Please consider sponsoring a choir member for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Thank you!
Excerpts from letters between organizers for this tour show how this visit will change lives and bring hope to the entire city.
“Sistine Chapel Choir’s performance is their first visit to the US since 1986 and first ever to Detroit.”
---Literature produced by Capella Musicale Pontificia Sistina (Sistine Chapel Choir) on the occasion of their historic visit to the United States
A Baptist woman in Detroit during a dinner with the Sistine Chapel Choir Director said of Psalm XXII and the project, “He restores my soul,” she said, and this project can restore the soul of the city.”
--From Maestro Palombella in a letter to the tour coordinators.
“Music is at the heart of Detroit. From Motown to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, our city has left a lasting impact on the musical world. As a community we look forward to September 2017 when our citizens of all faiths will be able to welcome the 1500-year old Sistine Chapel Choir to add another chapter to our city’s rich musical heritage. Economically the visit will generate and complement tourism efforts. Artistically, I understand that the choir will perform an expansive repertoire of Renaissance music that has never before been performed in our own Renaissance city.”

How will our community at St. Luke benefit?
*Our music ministry will hear some of the oldest and most beautifully crafted liturgical music ever created which is sure to have a lasting impact on the musical and spiritual life of our entire community.
*St. Luke Choir will also be part of the larger mission to bring comfort to our brothers and sisters in Michigan who have experienced many hardships. We will in part be fulfilling St. Luke’s mission statement… “…serving others and transforming the culture by our witness to the message of the Gospel in the way we live our lives and generously share our gifts.”
