Several times a year we have fun and educational interactive parish retreats. These events focus on a particular theme and each part has specific age appropriate activities / content. Parishioners of all ages come together, share a meal, meet new people and enjoy learning more about their faith. This is also an integral part of the PREP Program, family component.
These days, it seems everything costs money and there is very little that families can do together that will help them grow in faith and knowledge of our beliefs as Catholic Christians. The Intergenerational Events are an awesome opportunity for our parish families and individuals to meet other parishioners, and enjoy family fellowship in a casual learning environment that only requires a small sacrifice of time to be carved out of the busyness of life.
The events in 2010-2011 school year will also take the place of regularly scheduled Sunday PREP classes for that week. The Wednesday Class schedule doesn't change. Due to the added length of the Retreat, as compared to regular class time, each retreats counts as 2 classes. Attendance for 1st, 2nd, and 8th grade students is required. This will enable a lot more families to participate, meet and socialize with other parish families.
Watch for announcements and posters for these events. They will be advertised through the Parish and Religious Ed / Faith Formation web sites, the Parish Bulletin, and posters. It is important to watch for these and the Registration Forms that are made available through PREP classes and the above means. In order to plan for the events the registration of those who plan to attend help us to have the right amount of volunteers, food and materials. These events are much like special family occasions where you have many guests. There’s a lot of work and preparation that is necessary and it’s nice to know who’s coming!
At various times during the year we gather for celebrating special occasions! These events include long standing traditions in our Parish as well as some new ones! They include:
When you bring your children for a sacraments class or other meetings, wouldn't it be nice if you didn't have to arrange for babysitting for the other kids? You’re in luck! We will provide supervised fun and learning activities for your other children while you enjoy coffee and fellowship with other parents or while you are participating in one of the parent meetings. No need to rush around while one child is in class. No need to make arrangements for the other kids. Plus you get a little time to relax and enjoy the company of other adults!
This year we are going to try to overcome our technical and scheduling difficulties and once again offer several ‘Family Nights’. We’ll provide the movie on the Big Screen and make snacks available. The movie will always be family oriented, family rated and appealing to the broadest age group. We will also have a fellowship room available for those parents who would like to let their kids enjoy the movie while they enjoy beverages and fellowship with other parents. Bring your favorite portable chair, sit back and enjoy!
If we can overcome our technical difficulties, we hope to offer some of the playoff games of various sports as broadcast live over the air or the internet. Bring your favorite portable chair, sit on the edge of your seat and cheer on your favorite team!
