Youth Ministry Overview

The Catholic Youth Ministry (CYM) program at St. Luke’s is the response of the Christian community to the needs of young people and the sharing of the unique gifts of youth with the larger community.

Goals of CYM:

Goal 1: Empowerment: To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.
Goal 2: Participation: To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.
Goal 3: Growth: To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.

Scheduling:

Both Junior High and Senior High Groups are held in the Parish Center / Youth Room. Junior High (Grades 6-8) Youth Meetings are generally held twice a month on Sunday evenings from 6-7 PM. Senior High (Grades 9-12) Youth Meetings are generally held on Wednesday evenings from 6-8 PM. Meetings and events are published in the weekly Church Bulletin and in Youth Ministry handouts. Announcements are posted on the Youth Ministry bulletin boards in the church and here on the St. Luke’s web site. You may also be added to the Youth Ministry email list by sending your email to cym@stlukesparish.org. Please check these locations for latest information.

Events and Activities:

CYM activities have included but are not limited to the following:
Christmas, Graduation & Youth Liturgies, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, Lectors, Ushers, Acolytes, decorating the church for Christmas, Parish Festival, flag football, Parish Picnic, Living Stations of the Cross, Habitat for Humanity, St. Francis Soup Kitchen, Gainesville Catholic Worker House, Souper Bowl of Caring, Waste Not Want Not, Food Fast, Relay for Life, Service Days, Parish Retreats, bowling, Diocesan Youth Rally, Diocesan World Youth Day in St. Augustine, National Catholic Youth Conference, Steubenville, Notre Dame Vision, volleyball, Mass at the Cathedral, Tour of Mission of Nombre de Dios, Urban Plunge, S.P.L.U.N.G.E., Youth Leader, Mission Trips to Alabama, West Virginia, North Carolina & Tennessee, Parish Breakfasts, Lenten Fish Fry, Fall Craft & Rummage Sale, Bake Sales, “ Shower of Flowers”, Cookie Care Packages, Concerts, Night of Joy, Sr. Helen Prejean, Blessing of Teen Drivers, Self Defense Classes, National Youth Day Prayer Bookmarks, Birthday recognitions, Dinner Theater, Msgr. Joseph James Writing Scholarships, St. Timothy Award, Parent-Teen Relationship Seminar ,Break Through Retreats, Camp Legacy, Antioch Retreat.

The youth can participate in ALL or SOME the Youth Ministry opportunities. They are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities.
